Heather Roberts
Literary Agent (also a Marketing Professional), 1852 Literary (also 1852 Media - the marketing firm)
Heather Roberts is a licensed attorney, literary agent, book marketer, and lifelong voracious reader who has built her career around helping authors navigate the business of publishing.
In 2016, she founded 1852 Media to provide strategic marketing and promotional support to authors at every stage of their careers. She later founded 1852 Literary to create more opportunities for writers seeking traditional publication while helping established authors expand their careers, strengthen their brands, and pursue new publishing goals. She is a member of the Association of American Literary Agents.
Heather also serves on the boards of After Action, a nonprofit that helps veterans and trauma survivors build sustainable futures through entrepreneurship and community support, and the Green Mountain Book Festival in Burlington, Vermont. She is also an elected Justice of the Peace in her Vermont community.
When she is not reading manuscripts, developing marketing strategies, or talking about books, Heather can usually be found caring for her herd of goats, quilting, or spending time with her husband and adult children.
Examples of books she currently represents:
Good For Her by Tylor Paige; Camera Stays On by Tylor Paige; Trouble Brewing by Walker Rose.
Heather is looking for:
I'm currently looking for manuscripts with strong writing, a distinctive hook, and compelling characters who stay with me long after I've finished reading. I'm especially drawn to stories that blend genres in unexpected ways and bring something fresh to familiar tropes.
I would love to see dark romance, vampire romance, LGBTQ+ romance, romantic thrillers or suspense, and other genre-driven stories with a strong romantic thread running through them. Whether the romance is central to the plot or woven into a larger story, I'm looking for emotional depth, memorable chemistry, and a premise that immediately makes me want to keep reading.
Heather is not looking for:
I'm not looking for stories that feel one-note or rely on a single trope, conflict, or character dynamic to carry the entire manuscript. I want layered characters, meaningful emotional stakes, and a plot that continues to deepen as the story unfolds.
I'm also not currently seeking straightforward contemporary romance unless it has a particularly compelling hook, fresh concept, or distinctive voice that sets it apart. Finally, every manuscript I consider should contain a meaningful romantic theme or storyline, even when the book primarily falls within another genre.
