Marin Takikawa is an agent and foreign rights director at the Friedrich Agency. Born in Tokyo and raised in Singapore and NYC, she joined TFA in early 2021 and now has the immense privilege of selling international rights for both debuts and seasoned authors including Alison Espach, Ruth Ozeki, and the Estate of Frank McCourt, in addition to representing her own list. She’s looking for bold, voicey, genre-bending literary/upmarket fiction and YA. Regardless of category, she looks for singular, irreverent voices unafraid of pushing against the status quo, with a particular interest in writers from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities, as well as diasporic voices.

Marin is looking for:
I'm looking for bold, voice-driven, genre-bending fiction across the adult and YA space. For adult fiction, I’m always seeking innovative—both in idea and structure—literary and upmarket fiction that’s bold, subversive, and full of heart(break). I love an irreverent and sharp voice. Thematically, I’m very into works that lie at the intersection of race, class, and belonging! As of late, I’ve been looking high and low for a stunning literary love story that’s nostalgia-inducing, full of what-ifs, and filled to the brim with longing.
Marin is not looking for:
If infidelity is a core part of the premise, that's probably not for me. Anything that involves the military or police. Self-help/prescriptive nonfiction.
