Parties and Volunteers

Hello and happy August! Welcome to the latest intermittent installment of the TBR newsletter.

As the buzz of fall and back-to-school begins, many of you have been emailing us to ask about registration. Don’t worry: it’s coming! We’ll be announcing our (fabulous!) roster of participating literary agents by the end of August, and conference registration will open in late September. We’ll tell our email subscribers about it first, so stay tuned!

Meanwhile, some other fun and exciting updates:

Party! Party! Party!
Committee! Committee! Committee!

When we started planning TBR, we knew that a nonnegotiable feature of the conference was a big party on Saturday night. But what —and where — should that big gathering be? It turns out that most Cambridge/Somerville venues large enough for 300-400 partiers are often, well, a bit gloomy.

We were just beginning to despair when some wonderful person on Facebook asked us if we’d heard of La Fabrica, a Spanish-Caribbean nightclub in Central Square.

We went for a visit, and fell in love. La Fabrica is truly "fab" and everything we want: a cool space with a fabulous sound system, great food and drinks, and plenty of room to mingle.

Disco-ball-fun-time energy. Fab!

Now that we have the venue, we have to make the event, well, fabulous!

That’s where you come in. We’re seeking 3-5 people to head up a Party Planning Committee to help us put together a fantastic night of literary-adjacent programming, music, and more. We say “literary adjacent” because we want to think outside the box and do something interesting and fresh. We’re open to your ideas and excited to make this Saturday night party one for the books (which is, coincidentally, what we’re calling it!)

If you’re interested in being part of the One for the Books Planning Committee, please email whitney@tbr.boston to let us know!

Looking for other ways to volunteer with TBR?

The party planning committee is just one of the ways to get involved with TBR. We’re also seeking volunteers and interns for the following roles:

  • Publishing Matchmaker Liaison: Want to get to know literary agents and editors? Help us coordinate our Publishing Matchmaker program. If you are organized, responsible, and spreadsheets are your jam, this is the position for you.

  • Social Media intern(s): Help us craft the look, feel, and voice of TBR! If you love Instagram and TikTok, enjoy coming up with fun social media campaigns, and have a great eye for design, we need your help. (Like, we are old, and we really, really need your help.)

These positions include free admission to TBR. With the exception of the actual conference, all of the work will happen remotely, with occasional Zoom check-in meetings.

Email whitney@tbr.boston to let us know you’re interested. Please include the position that interests you, as well as a paragraph or two detailing your qualifications.

Your desk does not need to look like us to be our intern, but if it does, we’ll be jealous.

Become a TBR sponsor or exhibitor!

We’re excited to announce that in addition to our on-site bookstore, hosted by Porter Square Books, we have room for additional exhibitors to promote their organization or business at TBR. In our first year, there are two options:

Conference Exhibitor ($499; non-profit rate: $299), which includes…

  • Table space in premium location near our on-site bookstore and registration

  • One sponsored post in our opt-in email newsletter before, during, or after the event

  • Logo on conference website

  • Attendee folder insert

  • Half-price conference admission for two guests

  • Two guest passes to TBR VIP kick-off event for conference presenters on Friday, January 16th

Conference Sponsor ($249), which includes
:

  • Your logo on conference website

  • Attendee folder insert

  • Half-price conference admission for one guest

If you’d like to become an exhibitor or sponsor, please fill out this form or email whitney@tbr.boston for more information or to let us know you’re interested.

Thanks you so much. More soon—until then, happy writing!
